DIY Headbands

Last week my DD had a play date with her cousin at my in-law's house.  It was a quiet and balmy Friday afternoon with nothing to do while the kids were playing when my MIL showed me new stuff she made.  She loves beading in her spare time and has made necklaces, bracelets and earrings, some to sell and most to give as gifts.  

Her latest project were headbands.  She made some for all the grand daughters.  I was so curious that she taught me how to make one.  So I made one for myself.  I used freshwater pearls and Murano crystals she had in her supply kit.  The wire I used were copper wires.  MIL also asked me to finish the one she was making for my DD and I made her another one too.  I used Murano crystals in heart shapes and beads for DD's headbands.

DIY Project:lip balm in a tube

Isn't it frustrating and unhygeinic to use lip balms in pots? I prefer my lip balms (and glosses and other lippies for that matter) to be in tubes.

I've had the MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 in Petting Pink for a few years (see, it's still in it's old jar container) but I don't often use it because it's in a pot. So a few weeks ago I did this:

I used a lip balm tube I've just used up and cleaned it well. I melted the MAC in the microwave then poured it in the tube. I let it harden in the refrigerator. I still have some left over in the pot but I'll transfer it when the tube has been halfway used up.

I made a vanity...

I didn't have a place before to put my mmu and other m/u that my DD won't be able to reach. I used to put them all in my closet but I found it hard to reach or get the things I needed.

So I made my own vanity table using my old study desk which I've been using to store some of my nicknacks (the huge bottom half which are cabinets still remain my DD's closet). With the help of my dad, we removed the tiny cubbyholes and shelf so I could put in my drawers of mmu.

Here's the result:

The blue box on upper right houses all my blushes. I don't have any more space in the drawers.

Blue drawers at the Left contains palettes, primers, non-mmu stuff.

Black box w/ clear drawers contains from L to R:

I put a light on top which I attached to an upper shelf. At least my DD won't be able to get her hands on my stuff and all makeup would not get dusty too from the cover (and hubby won't see how much I have). All stuff in there are only those that I use. Back-up and other full sizes not in use I store elsewhere. All skin care stuff is also kept on another shelf.

The flower thingy you see on the right side is an MP3 speaker (attached to the player). It lights up, talks and the leaves dance when music is played. The lcd has a digital clock and it even has a snooze function. If you left it on but player is off it turns off after 5 minutes by lighting up and saying "Goodbye, zzz...zzzz...zzzz...". Yeah, it snores but it's so cute.

Nikki's Mix

This is supposed to be "Jane's Mix" but I tweaked it a bit.
FYI, Jane's Mix is a finishing powder mixed up by Jane from the Aromaleigh forum. You can tweak the recipe whatever way you want (like all minerals) whether for cooler or warmer skintones. It's basically made up of Aromaleigh products using sample sizes for easier measurement.

Nikki's Mix

I filled up a 30 gram jar when I was done. I mixed the following AL products:

In sample sizes (Jane's Mix but not the exact recipe)-

Coquilles:
1 Nectarine
1 Juane
1 Rose
1 Lilas
1/2 Vert (it was too green)

1/2 Medium Bronze
2 x Illuminator
1 Perle Splendor
1/2 Perle Illusion

I added in:

1/4 tsp. Silica
1/2 tsp. Kaolin Clay

I think I'm going to add in more Silica and Kaolin clay for more oil control. Maybe a little Allantoin and Boron Nitride too? So far, my mix has a little bit of glow with a little bit of oil control and it also makes the skin look a bit airbrushed. I think I'm going to add in my URFP sample too to make it look more airbrushed on. I may need a bigger jar than this to mix in.

My MIY package and other stuff

Hurray! The sun is shining and my husband's car can now be repainted properly. It's been raining the last 2 days so the car couldn't be painted right away in my uncle's car shop. At least the dent's been fixed. Someone did a "Britney Spears" on our car in a mall parking lot 2 weeks ago. The right passenger door was dented when we got back to the car. Probably happened while another vehicle was backing up into the parking slot next to ours and it hit our car. STUPID! And he/she didn't even leave a note or whatever.


Anyway, I got my MIY ingredients from La Belle Femme Cosmetics today. It's for making finishing powder and primer powder. I got lots of recipes off the web and MMM so I plan to try making my own one of these days. If I get around to doing it, haha. If not, I'll just sell it to one of my friends who started her own mmu line called Ellana.




I got Serecite Mica, Superfine Silk powder, Allantoin powder, Boron nitrate powder, Rice Powder and Silica microspheres. I have a big 4 oz. bag of Kaolin Clay from a previous order. Why I got such a huge bag, I'll never know. Now I am re-thinking some of the items I got since my skin is turning into Combination skin from Oily skin from a change in skincare products I'm using. Hmm...at least I have some MIY projects to do to keep me busy some other time.

I also got my PureLuxe order from their last sale with the 25% discount. Full sized jars of eyeshadows are what I got this time! The circular thing in the middle of the picture is the Eyepod used as a mixing container for eyeshadows. I need that so I won't have to use my hand in making a mineral liner with Milan's Gelle drops. It really is hard to rinse off the gelle drops from the hand.





The shadows are:
Cashmere - Medium mocha brown with a lighter beige pearl highlight
Harmony - Gorgeous mauve/brown with a pearl finish
Golden Sands - Soft taupe brown with bronze shimmer
Chocolate Cherries - Medium brown base with reddish/pink interference
Chocolate Blueberries - Muted brown base with blue interference

I had samples of Chocolate blueberries and cherries before and I liked them both hence going full size this time. The others are for my neutral shades since I lacked those colors. I'll make swatches soon. I plan to press all these too (another reason I wanted full sizes).
